Global Disability Summit 2025 Policy Statement: Ensuring Food Security for Persons with Disabilities

HomeGlobal Disability Summit 2025 Policy Statement: Ensuring Food Security for Persons with Disabilities

Persons with disabilities face systemic barriers to food security, land ownership and economic opportunities, making them highly vulnerable to hunger, poverty and exclusion. Urgent action is needed to address these challenges. At Global Disability Summit (GDS) 2025, we call upon governments, donors and organizations to work together in removing these barriers and promoting inclusive food security. Drawing from the We are Able! programme (2021-2025) in East- and Central Africa, we highlight the key issues, including discrimination, limited land access and policy gaps. We urge stakeholders to implement disability-inclusive policies, enhance economic inclusion and ensure meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making.
