Power of Voices: Farmer Andima Alfred
Last October, the Dutch We are Able! team had a great chance to show some of the We are Able! results to peer organisations in the Netherlands. During an event that was organized by Partos (Dutch umbrella organization for NGOs) and Vice Versa (magazine about development cooperation), we shared video’s of our programme. The event was centred around the Power of Voices partnerships, with contributions from Surinam and Uganda, as well as reflections on the Dutch climate for development.
We are Able! was highlighted by showcasing the video about farmer Alfred in Uganda, who was not only able to start engaging in agricultural activities himself, but is now also empowering persons with disabilities in his community. The video was made by the African branch of Vice Versa, and gave a great impression of the work in our programme. Apart from sharing this beautiful footage, the director of SeeYou was interviewed about our programme, highlighting the key elements.
It was great to share about the successes of our programme. It was also heartwarming to be in a theatre full of enthusiasts for our type of work. Especially in times of declining availability of Dutch funding for strengthening the voice of civil society. The collection of achievements by Power of Voices programmes sends a strong message about the importance of giving a voice to the most vulnerable.
