A delegation of We are Able! was present at the World Urban Forum that took place in Katowice/Poland June 26-30. This international conference was a good opportunity to increase awareness on the need for disability inclusion at different levels.
Two activities were organised by the We are Able! delegation: a training on disability inclusion and working with a local inclusion agenda and a panel discussion on the same themes. In these interactive sessions awareness was raised, participants experienced the challenges of living with a disability and learned more about inclusive governance and working together with Persons With Disabilities and Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs).
The Local Inclusion Agenda was felt a useful tool in implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on the local level in different countries.
Some feedback we received on our activities:
“Very useful and inspirational”
“I am more aware of the importance of inclusive governance”
“Inclusion of Persons With Disabilities is crucial”
“The urgent need for an action plan as a local inclusion agenda”
