The Global Disability Summit in Berlin has been of paramount importance in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities worldwide. Global leaders, policy makers, civil society organisations, organisations of persons with disabilities gathered for several days in Berlin, and many CSO and OPDs already joined for preparatory meetings the week before. They discussed proposals for more inclusive policies, enhanced accessibility, and measures to empower persons with disabilities and their self organisations.
We are Able! also engaged with the Summit. In the below briefing paper, we highlight the Summit’s progress, especially in the area of inclusive food security. On this topic, we promoted a policy statement calling for international donors to take immediate action. We also organised a side event on inclusive governance showcasing effective collaboration between local government and OPDs in the city of Arua, Uganda.
